Son of William Obediah Utley & Cynthia Ann Wickliffe

 

 

Aspasia Utley was born March 4, 1868 in Seminary, Hopkins, Kentucky.  He was the second of five children born to William Obediah Utley and Cynthia Ann Wickliffe.  He was raised on the family farm in Seminary, Hopkins County, Kentucky.

On October 27, 1902, Aspasia married Susan Alyce Rutherford in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky.  He was 34 years old and she was 17 years.  Susan was born on October 29, 1885 in the same county, the daughter of Robert and Mary Rutherford. 

After their marriage, Aspasia and Susan settled on a farm on Pleasant View Road in the city of Kitchen (Madisonville) in Hopkins County.  They remained on the farm the rest of their lives, and worked the land with their children.  Aspasia and Susan had seven children:

Like his cousin, Hiram Luckett (son of John Luckett and Sarah Wickliffe), Aspasia served in the Spanish American War, which took place from April to August 1898.  He most likely served in the 1^st Kentucky Volunteer Infantry.  A brief history of that infantry is included in Hiram’s history. 

Aspasia Utley died on October 22, 1937 in Madisonville (Kitchen), Hopkins, Kentucky at the age of 69 years.  His wife, Susan, lived another 20 years before her death in 1957.  Susan Alyce Rutherford Utley died on October 11, 1957 in Madisonville as well.  She was two weeks and four days shy of her 72^nd birthday.
