John Davis Sellars (1889-1942)

John Davis Sellars was born on October 28, 1889 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  He was the son of John Henry Sellars and Zerelda Eckler.

On June 5, 1917, John registered for the draft for World War I in Harrison County.  Both of his parents had died by that time, and he was living in Richland, Harrison County, with his sister, Katie, and his half-brother, Howard Humphrey.  John and Howard worked as farm laborers.  John was described as tall and slender, with brown hair and eyes.

In 1930, John was boarding with Howard and his wife, Mae, in their home in Richland. 

John Davis Sellars died on April 3, 1942 in McKenneysburg, Pendleton County, Kentucky.  He died as a result of a heart attack at 52 years of age.

Howard Hamilton Humphrey (1878-1950)

Howard Hamilton Humphrey was born on September 28, 1878 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  He was the son of Enoch Humphrey and Zerelda D. Eckler

In 1910, Howard was working for Jefferson D. Woolery in McKennysburg, Pendleton County, Kentucky.  He was employed as a hired hand, doing general farm labor.   

On September 12, 1918, Howard registered for the draft for the First World War.  At that time, he was working as a farm laborer for Anna Moore in Harrison County.  He was described as tall and slender, with brown eyes and hair.

Howard married L. Mae Pollard on February 19, 1920 in Richland, Harrison County, Kentucky.  He was 42 years old and she was 37 years.  Mae was born on May 19, 1882 in Harrison County, the daughter of Thomas Henry Pollard and Susan Parker. 

After their marriage, the couple rented a home in Richland, where Howard continued work as a farm laborer.  Howard’s half-brother, John Davis Sellars, was living with them in 1930.

Howard Hamilton Humphrey died on June 15, 1950 in Harrison County.  The cause of death listed was a cerebral hemorrhage.  He was 71 years old at his death. 

L. Mae Pollard Humphrey died two years later, on August 19, 1952 in the same place.  She also died of a cerebral hemorrhage.  She was 70 years old at her death.

Enoch Humphrey (1847- )

Enoch Humphrey was born about 1847 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  He was the son of Benjamin Humphrey and Deborah Brannock.

Enoch married Zerelda D. Eckler on January 7, 1869 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  He was about 22 years old and she was around 17 years.  Zerelda was born about 1852 in Harrison County, the daughter of Uley Eckler and Helen Taylor.  Enoch and Zerelda had at least five children:

            Carrie Day                            born August 15, 1876
            Linna A.                                 born 1877
            Howard Hamilton                 born September 28, 1878

In 1880, Enoch and his family were living on a farm next to Zerelda’s parents in Richland, Harrison County, Kentucky.  Enoch worked the land, and Zerelda kept house. 

Zerelda married a second time on November 29, 1887 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  She married John Henry Sellars, born May 6, 1845 in Harrison County, the son of John Sellars and Jane Clifford.  This was John’s second marriage as well. 

John married Dallas Roberts on March 3, 1881 in Harrison County.  They were both 36 years old at the time of their marriage.  Dallas was born about 1845 in Kentucky.  John and Dallas had three children:

            Atwell Thomas           born April 24, 1876
            Katie                           born August 10, 1882     
            Alexander                  born April 1884
           
John and Zerelda had at least one child:

            John Davis                born October 28, 1889  

In 1900, John and Zerelda were renting a farm in McKennysburg, Pendleton County, Kentucky, where John was employed as a farmer.  Their three sons, John, Alexander, and Atwell were living with them.  Zerelda was listed as the mother of eight children, with six still living. 

John was a widow by 1910, living with two of his children, John and Katie.  They were all living on a rented farm in Richland, Harrison County, Kentucky. 

John Howard Sellars died just month after his 67th birthday, on June 15, 1912 in Richland, Harrison County, Kentucky.

Carrie Day Humphrey (1876-1938)

Carrie Day Humphrey was born on August 15, 1876 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  She was the daughter of Enoch Humphrey and Zerelda D. Eckler.

Carrie married John William McCandless on February 3, 1887 in Harrison County, Kentucky.  The marriage certificate declared that Carrie was 16 years old and that John was 26 years.  John was born in 1861 in Kentucky, the son of William K. and Susan McCandless.  They had at least two children:
           
            Ethel P.                      born 1890
            Edward Moore          born 1892

Carrie married a second time on July 25, 1906 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.  She married Francis “Frank” William Hendy, the son of Francis Thomas Hendy and Eunice Alice McClure.  Frank was born on January 25, 1875 in Grant County, Kentucky.

In 1910, the couple was living with Frank’s parents in Richland, Harrison County, Kentucky.  Frank was employed as a farmer on a corn and tobacco farm.  In this census, Carrie is listed as the mother of three children, with two still living. 

On September 12, 1918, Frank registered for the draft for the First World War.  He was described as tall and slender, with blue eyes and red hair. 

Frank and Carrie were living in McKennysburg, Pendleton County, Kentucky, in 1930, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. 

Carrie Day Humphrey McCandless Hendy died on November 11, 1938 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.  The cause of death listed was a cerebral hemorrhage.  She was 62 years old at her death. 

Francis “Frank” William Hendy died on September 30, 1962 in the same place.  He was 87 years old.
