Alberta Josephine “Bertie” Albritton was born on November 11, 1872 in Graves County, Kentucky.  She was the daughter of Adam Atkinson Albritton and Ophelia Collier

Alberta married J. Gibson around 1890 in Kentucky.  They had one child:

Geraldine        born April 1892

J. Gibson must have passed away, because Alberta remarried to George Washington Carter in 1898.  She was 26 years old and he was 21 years.  George was born on July 23, 1878 in Mayfield, Graves County, Kentucky, the son of David and Elizabeth J. Carter.

Gus W.            born June 10, 1901
Shelburn          born 1904
Clifford                        born 1906
Ruth F.            born 1911
Josephine        born 1914

After their marriage, the couple purchased a home and settled their family in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee.  In 1910, George was working as an insurance agent.

George registered for the draft for the First World War on September 12, 1918.  At that time, he and Alberta and their children were living at 604 North Division Street in Union, Obion County, Tennessee.  He was described as of medium height and slender build, with blue eyes and brown hair.  He did not fight in the war.

In 1930, George and his son, Gus were in Denver, Denver County, Colorado.  They were either visiting or living with his daughter, Lorene, and her husband Herman Bell.  Meanwhile, Alberta was renting a home on South Grand Avenue in Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida.

Alberta Josephine Albritton Gibson Carter died on February 27, 1932 in Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida.  She was 60 years old at her death.  She was buried in Union, Obion County, Tennessee
