Henrietta Hobbs (1897-1980)


Henrietta Hobbs was born on February 10, 1897 in Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  She was the daughter of Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs and Henrietta Arb.  She was raised in East Liverpool, Columbiana County.

Henrietta married George D. Burns around 1918 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County.  She was 21 years old and he was 20 years.  George was born May 3, 1898 in Ohio, the son of George and Bessie Burns.

After their marriage, the couple settled in a home in Wellsville, Columbiana County.  George was employed as a pipe fitter for the railroad, and eventually opened his own pluming shop by 1930.  George and Henrietta had at least one child:

George Dewey Burns died on January 15, 1958 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, at the age of 59 years.  Henrietta survived her husband by 22 years.

Henrietta Hobbs Burns died on August 2, 1980 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  She was 83 years old at her death.

Edward Lawrence Hobbs (1892-1893)


Edward Lawrence Hobbs was born August 31, 1892 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  He was the son of Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs and Henrietta Arb.

Edward lived only eight months.  He died on April 24, 1893 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County.

Rosa Hobbs (1890-1890)

Rosa Hobbs was born September 3, 1890 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  She was the daughter of Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs and Henrietta Arb.

Rosa lived only two weeks.  She died on September 17, 1890 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County.

Nellie Hobbs (1885-1888)


Nellie Hobbs was born April 9, 1885 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  She was the daughter of Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs and Henrietta Arb.

Nellie lived only three years and four months.  She died on August 14, 1888 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County.

Susanna Hobbs (1882- )

Susanna Hobbs was born on January 14, 1882 in Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  She was the daughter of Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs and Henrietta Arb.  She was raised in East Liverpool, Columbiana County.

Susanna married Arthur John Parker on March 17, 1900 in Columbiana County.  They were both 18 years old.  Arthur was born on February 7, 1882 in West Virginia, the son of John Parker and Margaret Ulom.

Shortly after their marriage, the couple rented a home on North Avenue in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, where Arthur worked for a pottery company.  Arthur and Susanna had

Arthur registered for the draft for the First World War on September 12, 1918 in Columbiana County.  At that time, he was employed as a potter for the Colonial Pottery Company.  He was described as of medium height and build, with brown eyes and hair.

Arthur and Susan divorced sometime between 1920 and 1929, probably in Columbiana County, Ohio.

Arthur John Parker died on April 23, 1929 in Toronto, Jefferson County, Ohio.  His death was the result of “injuries received automobile accident, while riding as a passenger in Toronto.” He was 47 years old at his death.

Susanna remarried on September 3, 1929 in Hancock County, Indiana.  She married John Newland, born about 1878 in West Virginia.  In 1930, the newlyweds were renting a home on Langley Avenue in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, for $25 a month.  John was employed as a janitor for the post office.

Leonard Hobbs (1879-1936)

Leonard Hobbs was born July 22, 1879 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  He was the son of Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs and Henrietta Arb.  He was raised in East Liverpool.

Leonard married Edna Reed on May 12, 1902 in Columbiana County, Ohio.  He was 22 years old and she was 15 years.  Edna was born February 8, 1887 in East Liverpool, the daughter of Ira Reed and Clara Kennedy. 

Edna Reed Hobbs died on May 12, 1905 in Columbiana County.  She was 18 years old at her death. 

Leonard married a second time around 1907.  He married Ada May Wilford, born about 1891 in Liverpool, Columbiana, Ohio. 
           
After their marriage, Leonard and Ada settled in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.  They had at least two children:

            Leonard Wayne       born October 13, 1911

Leonard registered for the draft for the First World War on September 12, 1918 in Columbiana County.  At that time, he and Ada were living at 1002 E. Church Street in East Liverpool.  Leonard was employed as a potter for the Standard Pottery Company in East Liverpool.  Leonard was described as a short man, of medium build, with brown eyes and gray hair.

By 1930, Leonard and Ada owned a home valued at $5,000 on Observation Street in East Liverpool.  Leonard was employed as a Handle Maker for the Standard Pottery Company, and Ada owned and managed a beauty shop.

Leonard Hobbs died on May 24, 1936 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio, at the age of 56 years.  His death was suspected to either be accidental or suicide.  The cause of death listed on the death certificate states, “Crushed left leg and hip, also internally injured when he either fell or jumped from Newell bridge onto rail road tracks, some 50 feet below.  No witnesses – cause unknown.”

Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs (1843-1914)

Eli Hamilton Milton Hobbs was born in September 1843 in Muhlenberg, Kentucky.  He was the last of five children born to Eli B. Hobbs and Lavina McMakin.

Eli married Henrietta Arb around 1876, probably in Columbiana County, Ohio.  He was about 34 years old and she was around 24 years.  Henrietta was born in September 1853 in Liverpool, Columbiana, Ohio, the daughter of Jacob Arb and Mary Foutts.

In 1900, Eli and Henrietta and their children were living in a home on North Avenue in East Liverpool, Columbiana, Ohio.  Eli was working as a clay miner.  Eli and Henrietta had nine children, with only five living to adulthood:

Henrietta Arb Hobbs died on February 24, 1914 in the same place.  She was 60 years old at her death.
