Bessie Lee Evans (1904-1987)

Bessie Lee Evans was born on July 30, 1904 in Pope County, Arkansas.  She was the fifth of eight children born to Lonnie Lee Evans and Tennessee Lee McCullough.  She was raised in Pope County, Arkansas.

Bessie Lee married Ben Charles Boggess around 1923, probably in Atkins, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was 24 years old and she was 17 years.  Ben was born on September 29, 1899 in Galla Creek, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was the youngest of four children born to William Clarence Boggess and Dora A. Reed.

Before his marriage, Ben registered for service for World War I, on September 12, 1918 in Pottsville, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was self-employed as a farmer.  He was short and stout, with grey eyes and blond hair.

In 1930, Ben and Bessie lived in El Reno, Canadian County, Oklahoma, along with Ben’s widowed mother, Dora.  Ben worked for an Ice Company at that time. 

Ben Charles Boggess died at the age of 52 on January 6, 1952 in Pottsville, Pope County, Arkansas.  Bessie went on to live another 35 years after the death of her husband.

Bessie Lee Evans Boggess died on November 22, 1987 in Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas.  She was 83 years old at her death.

Lula Grace Evans (1902-1973)

Lula Grace Evans

Lula Grace Evans was born March 25, 1902 in Pope County, Arkansas.  She was the fourth of eight children born to Lonnie Lee Evans and Tennessee Lee McCullough.  She was raised in Pope County, Arkansas.

In 1920, Lula’s family was living in a rented home on Ridge Road in Wilson, Pope County, Arkansas.  Lula was employed as a teacher at a public school at that time. 

Lula married Benjamin Hugh Tucker on April 27, 1922 in Conway County, Arkansas.  She was 20 years old and he was 30 years.  Ben was born on December 16, 1892 in Conway County, the son of Thomas Samuel Tucker and Mary Etta Adams.  Ben registered for the draft for the First World War on June 5, 1917.  He was described as a short man with medium build, grayish eyes and light hair.

After their marriage, the couple rented a home on North Florida Street in Marianna, Lee County, Arkansas, where Ben owned a Feed Store.  Ben and Lula had at least two children:

            Ben Hugh, Jr.              born 1923
            Gwendy Irean             born 1925

Benjamin Hugh Tucker died in October 1963 in Arkansas, just two months shy of his 71st birthday.  Lula died one decade later. 

Lula Grace Evans Tucker died in November 1973 in Camden, Ouachita County, Arkansas.  She was 71 years old at her death.

William James Evans (1900-1954)

William James Evans


William James Evans was born November 14, 1900 in Pope County, Arkansas.  He was the third of eight children born to Lonnie Lee Evans and Tennessee Lee McCullough.  He was raised in Pope County, Arkansas.

William James Evans died on May 25, 1954 in Conway County, Arkansas.  He was 53 years old at his death.

Loreen S. Evans (1899- )

Loreen S. Evans was born around 1899 in Pope County, Arkansas.  She was the second of eight children born to Lonnie Lee Evans and Tennessee Lee McCullough.  She was raised in Pope County, Arkansas.

In 1920, Loreen’s family was living in a rented home on Ridge Road in Wilson, Pope County, Arkansas.  Loreen was employed as a teacher at a public school at that time.

Ruth Evans was born on July 20, 1897 in Pope County, Arkansas.  She was the first of eight children born to Lonnie Lee Evans and Tennessee Lee McCullough.  She was raised in Pope County, Arkansas.

Ruth Evans lived only a year, she died on July 17, 1898 in Conway, Pope County, Arkansas.

Lonnie Lee Evans (1874-1941)

Lonnie Lee Evans was born on January 13, 1874 in Welborn, Conway County, Arkansas.  He was the eldest of three children born to William A. Evans and Susan C. McCaige.  He was raised on the family farm in Welborn, near the home of his grandparents, LeRoy P. and Margaret Evans.

Lonnie married Tennessee “Tennie” Lee McCullough on September 24, 1895 in Conway County, Arkansas.  He was 21 years old and she was 24 years.  Tennie was born on November 1, 1870 in Tennessee, the daughter of Joshua McCullough and Mary Jones. 

Lonnie and Tennie were the parents of eight children:

            William James             born November 14, 1900

Lonnie and his family were living in a home on Everett Street in Wilson, Pope County, Arkansas in 1910, where he was employed as a proprietor for a roller mill.  Lonnie registered for the draft for the First World War on September 12, 1918 in Pope County.  At that time, he was described as short and stout, with blue eyes and brown hair. 

In 1920, the family was living in a rented home on Ridge Road in Wilson, Pope County, Arkansas, where Lonnie was working as a machinist. 

Lonnie Lee Evans died on February 12, 1941 in Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas, at the age of 67 years.  His wife died the next day.

Tennessee Lee McCullough Evans died just one day after the death of her husband.  She died on February 13, 1941 in the same place.

Ben Charles Boggess (1899-1952)

Ben Charles Boggess was born on September 29, 1899 in Galla Creek, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was the youngest of four children born to William Clarence Boggess and Dora A. Reed.  Ben was raised on the family farm located on the Little Rock Fort Smith Highway in Galla Creek, Pope County, Arkansas.  The family farm was located near the farms of her grandparents, Charles and Isabella Boggess, and her Uncle Haise Boggess.

Ben registered for service for World War I, on September 12, 1918 in Pottsville, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was self-employed as a farmer.  He was short and stout, with grey eyes and blond hair.
