Minnie May McCaige (1877-1957)

Minnie May McCaige was born on July 3, 1877 in Los Angeles County, California.  She was the last of three children born to George Dauer McCaige and Janey Hurst.  She was raised on a farm in Los Angeles County, California.

When Minnie was about five years old, her mother died, leaving her father to care the three children.  Minnie never married, and lived with her father until his death in 1929.  Minnie never worked outside the home, but kept house for her father.

Minnie May McCaige died on December 10, 1957 in Los Angeles County, California.  She was 80 years old at her death.

Edward Oliver McCaige (1873-1948)


Edward Oliver McCaige was born on January 21, 1873 in Los Angeles County, California.  He was the second of three children born to George Dauer McCaige and Janey Hurst.  He was raised on a farm in Los Angeles County, California.

When Edward was about nine years old, his mother died, leaving his father to care for the three children.  Edward lived with his father in Los Angeles County until his marriage in 1914.  In 1910, Edward was a merchant for a lumber yard, which he owned in Puente, Los Angeles County.

Edward married Halla Marion Willits on January 1, 1914 in Redondo, Los Angeles County, California.  He was 38 years old and she was 25 years.  Halla was born on May 14, 1888 in Compton, Los Angeles County, California, the daughter of John Loren Willits and Joanna Benson Stockton. 

On September 12, 1918 Edward registered for the draft for the First World War.  At that time, he and Halla were living in Puente, Los Angeles County, California. Edward was a merchant for a lumber yard, which he owned.  He was described as tall with a medium build, having blue eyes and gray hair.

In 1930, the couple was living in a home on San Jose Street in Rowland, Los Angeles County.  Edward was employed as a salesman at a grocery store.  Edward and Halla had one child:

            John Edward               born June 5, 1926

Edward Oliver McCaige died on January 28, 1948 in Los Angeles County, California, just one week after his 75th birthday.   Halla went on to live another three decades after the death of her husband.

Halla Marion Willits McCaige died on December 29, 1977 in Grant County, Oregon.  She was 89 years old at her death.

Alice Lee McCaige (1870-1964)


Alice Lee McCaige was born on November 7, 1870 in Los Angeles County, California.  She was the first of three children born to George Dauer McCaige and Janey Hurst.  She was raised on a farm in Los Angeles County, California.  When Alice was about twelve years old, her mother died, leaving her father to care the three children. 

Alice married William E. Shugg on November 2, 1892 in Los Angeles County, California.  She was 22 years old and he was 28 years.  William was born on November 26, 1863 in Alhambra, Los Angeles County, California, the son of James Shugg and Esther Caroline Graham.

After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm in El Monte, Los Angeles County, California.  They had two children:
           
            Mable                          born 1893
            William Emery            born 1895

William E. Shugg died on November 3, 1929 in El Monte, Los Angeles County, California.  He was just a few weeks shy of his 66th birthday.  Alice Lee McCaige Shugg died nearly three decades later on March 6, 1964 in the same place.  She was 93 years old at her death.

George Dauer McCaige (1840-1929)

George Dauer McCaige was born on June 9, 1840, probably in Perry County, Tennessee.  He was the son of John Welsey McCaige and Sarah “Sallie” Sutter.  The McCaige family moved from Tennessee to a farm in Washington Township, Conway County, Arkansas before 1860.

George enlisted for service during the Civil War around 1861 in Arkansas.  He was a part of 1st Regiment, Arkansas Mounted Rifles, Company B.  He was about 21 years old at that time. 

At the age of 31, George married Janey Hurst around 1871 in Arkansas.  By 1879, George and Janey had moved to a farm in Los Angeles County, California.  They had three children:

            Alice Lee                     born November 7, 1870
            Edward Oliver             born January 21, 1873
            Minnie May                 born July 3, 1877

Janey Hurst McCaige died in 1882 in Los Nietos, California. In 1900, George, now a widower, was living in Rowland, Los Angeles County, California.  In his household were his widowed mother, Sallie; his son, Edward; his daughter, Minnie; his sister, Tabitha; and his niece and nephew, Jennie and Frank Randol.

George remained in Los Angeles County, living with his children, Edward and Minnie, until his death.  George Dauer McCaige died on March 5, 1929 in Rowland Heights, Los Angeles, California.  He was 88 years old at his death.

John Welsey McCaige (1822-bef 1900)

John Wesley McCaige was born about 1822, probably in Perry County, Tennessee.  He was the son of Samuel McCaige and Elizabeth Leslie.

John married Sarah “Sallie” Sutter around 1840 in Tennessee, both were about 18 years old.  Sarah was born in November 1821 in Tennessee.  John and Sallie had nine children, however I could only find record of six:

By 1860, the family had moved to a farm in Washington Township in Conway County, Arkansas. 

In 1900, Sallie was living in Rowland, Los Angeles County, California with her son, George.  John had died by this time, as Sallie was listed as a widow in that census.

Sarah Sutter McCaige died on September 5, 1908 in Los Angeles County, California.  She was just two months shy of her 87th birthday.

Azora George Evans (1875- )

Azora George Evans
 

Azora “George” Evans was born on December 8, 1875 in Welborn, Conway County, Arkansas.  He was the second of three children born to William A. Evans and Susan C. McCaige.  He was raised on the family farm in Welborn, near the home of his grandparents, LeRoy P. and Margaret Evans.

George married Antie Bradley on January 16, 1900 in Conway County, Arkansas.  He was 24 years old and she was 23 years.  Antie was born on March 30, 1872 in Arkansas, the daughter of Smith H. Bradley.   George and Antie had at least two children:

            Susan Blanche       born 1901
            Jewel                          born 1903


After their marriage, the couple settled in a rented home in Plumerville, Conway County, Arkansas, where George worked as a day laborer.

In 1910, the couple was living on Portland Gleeson Road in Howard, Conway County, Arkansas, where George was employed as an engineer.

Azora George Evans died on May 13, 1915 in Plumerville, Conway County, Arkansas.  He was buried in the Plumerville Cemetery.  George was 39 years old at his death.

After the death of her husband, Antie moved in with her married daughter, Blanche, and her husband, George Lee Rainey.  The Rainey home was in Heber Springs, Cleburne County, Arkansas.

By 1930, Antie and her daughter’s family had moved into a rented home on Chelsea Street in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.

Antie Bradley Evans died on October 23, 1939 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.  She was buried in the Clinton Cemetery in Clinton, Arkansas.  She was 67 years old at her death.

William A. Evans (1847-1900)

William A. Evans was born in September 1846 in Welborn, Conway County, Arkansas.  He was the son of LeRoy P. and Margaret Evans.  He was raised on the family farm in Welborn. 

William married Susan C. McCaige on March 24, 1870 in Conway County, Arkansas.  He was 23 years old and she was 22 years.  Susan was born on January 8, 1848 in Tennessee, the daughter of John Wesley McCaige and Sarah "Sallie" Sutter. 

After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm in Welborn, near the home of William’s parents.  William and Susan had three children:

            Lonnie Lee                 born January 13, 1874
            Azora George             born December 8, 1875
            Benjamin                    born May 18, 1878

Susan C. McCaige Evans died in 1897 in Conway County, Arkansas.   She was 51 years old at her death. 

In 1900, William was living with his son, Azora George, and his wife, Antie, in their home in Plumerville, Conway County, Arkansas.  William died later that year in the same place.  He was 53 years old at his death.

Bessie Lee Evans (1904-1987)

Bessie Lee Evans was born on July 30, 1904 in Pope County, Arkansas.  She was the fifth of eight children born to Lonnie Lee Evans and Tennessee Lee McCullough.  She was raised in Pope County, Arkansas.

Bessie Lee married Ben Charles Boggess around 1923, probably in Atkins, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was 24 years old and she was 17 years.  Ben was born on September 29, 1899 in Galla Creek, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was the youngest of four children born to William Clarence Boggess and Dora A. Reed.

Before his marriage, Ben registered for service for World War I, on September 12, 1918 in Pottsville, Pope County, Arkansas.  He was self-employed as a farmer.  He was short and stout, with grey eyes and blond hair.

In 1930, Ben and Bessie lived in El Reno, Canadian County, Oklahoma, along with Ben’s widowed mother, Dora.  Ben worked for an Ice Company at that time. 

Ben Charles Boggess died at the age of 52 on January 6, 1952 in Pottsville, Pope County, Arkansas.  Bessie went on to live another 35 years after the death of her husband.

Bessie Lee Evans Boggess died on November 22, 1987 in Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas.  She was 83 years old at her death.
