Hubert H. Hobbs (1887-1974)

Hubert H. Hobbs


Hubert H. Hobbs was born on October 26, 1887 in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.  He was the eldest of five children born to John Thomas Hobbs and Rachel Ann Herndon.  He was raised on the family farm in Chaplin, Nelson, Kentucky.

Hubert married Mayme Porter around 1910 in Nelson, Kentucky.  He was 22 years old and she was 25 years.  Mayme was born about 1884 in Kentucky. 

Hubert and Mayme made their home in Van Dyke, Anderson County, Kentucky.  Hubert enlisted for the draft for World War I on June 5, 1917 in Van Dyke County, Kentucky.  At that time, he was self-employed as an insurance agent.  He claimed exemption from the draft because he was the sole provider for his wife and her mother, Mary E. Porter.  He also was crippled in one leg.  Hubert was described as tall and slender, with grey eyes and black hair.  By 1930, the couple were living in Lawrenceburg, Anderson County, Kentucky.

Mayme Porter Hobbs died on November 4, 1967 in Franklin, Anderson County, Kentucky.  She was 83 years old at her death.  Hubert went on to live another seven years after his wife’s death.  Hubert H. Hobbs died at the age of 86 on May 17, 1974 in the same place.
