Edward Moore McCandless (1892-1971)

Edward Moore McCandless was born in 1892 in Kentucky.  He was the son of John William McCandless and Carrie Day Humphrey

Edward married Myrtle Hobbs on February 20, 1912 in Nelson County, Kentucky.  He was 20 years old and she was 16 years.  Myrtle was born on January 15, 1896 in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky, the daughter of George Edward Hobbs and Salena Knightly.

Myrtle passed away just five years after her marriage to Edward.  She died on March 5, 1917 in Nelson County, Kentucky, and was buried in Chaplin.

In 1920, Edward was living in Callensville, Pendleton County, Kentucky.  He was rooming with his married sister, Ethel Denny, and her husband, John.  Edward and John were both employed as laborers on a farm.

Edward remarried sometime between 1925 and 1930.  His new bride, Josephine Barnett, had been married once before as well. 

Josephine was born about 1893 in Kentucky.  Her first marriage was around 1917 and she had at least one child:

In 1930, Edward, Josephine, and Margrete were living in Taylorsville, Spencer County, Kentucky.  Edward was employed as a building carpenter and was also listed as a veteran of the World War.  He and his family lived near the home of Myrtle’s uncle, John Thomas Hobbs, and his wife, Sallie. 
    
Edward Moore McCandless died on November 29, 1971 at the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, at the age of 79 years.  He was a widow at his death, indicating that Josephine died sometime between 1930 and 1971.

Carroll Hobbs (1907-1909)

Carroll Hobbs


Carroll Hobbs was born on June 8, 1907 in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.  He was the sixth of seven children born to George Edward Hobbs and Salena Knightly.  He was raised on the family farm in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.

Carroll only lived a short 22 months.  He died on April 1, 1909 in Chaplin, Nelson, Kentucky.

Dwight Hobbs (1902-1963)

Dwight Hobbs





Dwight Hobbs was born on October 23, 1902 in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.  He was the fifth of seven children born to George Edward Hobbs and Salena Knightly.  He was raised on the family farm in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.



On November 23, 1923, Dwight married Anne Loreen Thomas in Nelson County, Kentucky.  He was 21 years old and she was 19 years.  Anne was born on March 30, 1904 in Kentucky.  They had at least four children:



            Leroy               born November 20, 1924

            Paul                 born March 26, 1926

            Wilma              born February 15, 1928

            Daniel              born April 25, 1932



After their marriage, Dwight and Anne lived in Jefferson County, Kentucky.  Around 1927, they moved their family to Nelson County, where Dwight was employed as a farm laborer.  They lived on Ashes Creek Road, near the home of Dwight’s sister, Alma Satterly and her husband, Clyde.



Dwight Hobbs died on November 20, 1963 in Jefferson County, Kentucky.  He was 61 years old at his death.

Alma Ruth Hobbs (1897-1980)

Alma Ruth Hobbs was born on October 15, 1897 in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.  She was the third of seven children born to George Edward Hobbs and Salena Knightly.  She was raised on the family farm in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.

Alma married Clyde Everett Satterly around 1920 in Nelson County, Kentucky.  She was 21 years old and he was 30 years.  Clyde was born on February 26, 1889 in Kentucky, the son of Jack Satterly and Sallie Monroe. 

Clyde and Alma raised their children on a farm on Ashes Creek Road in Nelson County, Kentucky.  They were the parents of at least four children:

            Pauline                           born June 5, 1925
            Mary Emogene                born 1929
            Alice M.                         born July 11, 1933

Alma Ruth Hobbs Satterly died on January 28, 1980 in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana.  She was 84 years old at her death.  Clyde died just two months after.  Clyde Everett Satterly died on March 17, 1980 in the same place.  He was 91 years old.

George Edward Hobbs (1871-1949)

George Edward Hobbs



George Edward “Ed” Hobbs was born September 20, 1871 in Nelson County, Kentucky.  He was the youngest of five children born to William M. Hobbs and Sarah Graves.  He was raised on the family farm in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.



Ed married Salena Knightly around 1893 in Nelson County, Kentucky.  He was 22 years old and she was 18 years.  Salena was born on June 4, 1874 in Owen County, Kentucky, the daughter of Elija Knightly and Melly Smith. 



After their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.  Ed and Salena had seven children:

            Alma Ruth           born October 15, 1897           

            Arleigh                 born 1900

            Dwight                 born October 23, 1902

            Carroll                  born June 8, 1907

            William G.            born April 1910

Salena Knightly Hobbs died on May 17, 1922 in Nelson County, Kentucky, at the age of 47.  The cause of death listed was pulmonary tuberculosis.  She was buried in Chaplin. 



Sometime after the death of his wife, Ed found employment as a salesman for the Standard Oil Company.  In 1930 he was rooming with the William Redman family in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky.



George Edward Hobbs died on June 5, 1949 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, at the age of 77 years.  The cause of death listed was coronary thrombosis and bronchial pneumonia.  He was buried in Chaplin, Kentucky.
