Gustavus Boggess (1853-1854)

Gustavus Boggess was born in 1853 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He lived less than a year.  Gustavus died on June 12, 1854 in the county of his birth.

The death record for Gustavus states that he was a slave, belonging to, or being fathered by, Presley M. Boggess.  The cause of death listed was “malformation of [the] brain.”

Earle P. Boggess (1874- )

Earle P. Boggess was born in March 1874 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was the last of eight children born to Presley M. Boggess and America D. Langley.  He was raised on the family farm in Muhlenberg.

In 1900, Earle was living with his parents on their farm in Boggess, Muhlenberg, Kentucky.  He was working as a farm laborer, probably on his father’s farm.

Ruth Boggess (1871-1948)

Ruth Boggess

Ruth Boggess was born in November 1871 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  She was the seventh of eight children born to Presley M. Boggess and America D. Langley.  She was raised on the family farm in Muhlenberg.



Ruth married Joseph Herman Holberg on January 8, 1896 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was 32 years old and she was 25 years.  Joseph was born October 21, 1864 in Macon, Noxubee County, Mississippi, the son of Joseph Ferdinand Holberg and Anna Whissler.  Although they moved around a lot, Joseph and Ruth lived mostly in Texas.  Joseph worked as a carpenter.  In 1930, he was doing carpentry work for a Hotel Supply Company in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  Joseph and Ruth were the parents of six children:



            Anton F.                     born November 14, 1895

            Robert Earle, Sr.       born October 17, 1898

            Coletta                       born in 1903

            Guion P.                    born January 22, 1906

            James Bernard         born July 23, 1910

            Louis Reid                   born in 1916



 Joseph Herman Holberg died in Houston, Harris County, Texas on September 15, 1948.  He was just a few weeks shy of his 86th birthday.  Ruth died about six weeks later.  She died on November 4, 1948 in Houston as well.  She was 77 years old.

Miranda Boggess (1867- )

Miranda Boggess was born in 1867 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  She was the sixth of eight children born to Presley M. Boggess and America D. Langley.  She was raised on the family farm in Muhlenberg. 

Miranda married Thomas B. Williams around 1895, probably in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  Thomas was born in 1864 in Kentucky.  After their marriage, Thomas and Miranda settled in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.  Thomas was employed as a conductor for the railroad in 1910.  They had at least two children:

            Gorden B.      born in 1901
            Gladis             born in 1906

Thomas B. Williams died on January 4, 1914 in McCracken County, Kentucky.  He was 50 years old at his death.

William M. Boggess

William M. Boggess was born in July 1864, in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was the fifth of eight children born to Presley M. Boggess and America D. Langley.  He was raised on the family farm in Muhlenberg.
                                                           
In 1900, William was living in his parents’ household in Boggess, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was working as a farm laborer, along with his father and brother, Earle.

Adenia Molly Boggess was born on September 17, 1859 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  She was the third of eight children born to Presley M. Boggess and America D. Langley.  She was raised on the family farm in Muhlenberg.

In 1880, Adenia was living in her parents’ household in Boggess, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
