Robert Lee Wickliffe (1872-1954)

Robert Lee Wickliffe

Son of William Washington Wickliffe & Sarah Jane Porter

Robert Lee Wickliffe was born in January 1872 in the city of Boggess, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. He was the youngest of three children born to William Washington Wickliffe and Sarah Jane Porter.

Around 1897, Robert married a woman named Lilly Frankie Moore, probably in Montague County, Texas. Robert was 25 years old and Lilly was 24 years. Lilly was born in August 1875 in Tennessee. After their marriage, Robert and Lilly settled in Montague County, Texas. They are the parents of eight children as follows:

Cantrell Lee born about 1902

Prentice Ausburn born in 1904

William Winston born in 1907

Edwin P. born in August 1909

Juanita born in 1913

Robert’s occupation varied over the years; in 1900 he was a Stockman, in 1910 a Cattle Trader, and in 1920 a Grocery Retail Merchant. By 1920, Robert and Lilly had relocated their family to a home on Katherine Street in Chilliclothe, in Hardeman County, Texas.

Robert Lee Wickliffe died on October 26, 1954 in Hardeman County, Texas. He was 82 years old at his death. Lilly dies a few years later, on April 4, 1958 in Dallas, Texas, just four months shy of her 85th birthday.

Minnie J. Wickliffe (1870- )

Minnie J. Wickliffe

Daughter of William Washington Wickliffe & Sarah Jane Porter

Minnie J. Wickliffe was born in 1870 in the city of Boggess, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. She was the second of three children born to William Washington Wickliffe and Sarah Jane Porter. In 1880, Minnie was living with her parents and brothers in Montague County, Texas.

Minnie’s parents are found in Montague County, Texas in 1900. In that Census, it is recorded that all three of the children of William and Sallie Wickliffe are still living.

Henry Walter Wickliffe (1868- )

Henry Walter Wickliffe

Son of William Washington Wickliffe & Sarah Jane Porter

Henry Walter Wickliffe was born on May 3, 1868 in the city of Boggess, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. He was the first of three children born to William Washington Wickliffe and Sarah Jane Porter.

Henry married Ida M. Burton around 1889, probably in Montague county, Texas. He was about 21 years old and she was around 15 years. Ida was born in Texas in December 1874.

The Wickliffe family was living in Norman, Cleveland County, Oklahoma in 1900. However, Henry was living in Oklahoma City as a lodger in 1910. He was working as a salesman in a dry goods store at the time.

Henry and Ida had at least three children:

Mamie born in January 1890

Earl Burton born March 9, 1894

Leroy born in February(?) 1898

By 1920, Henry had married a second time and moved to Seattle, King County, Washington, where he was employed as a floor man in a dry goods store. It is not known whether Henry and Ida divorced, or if she died.

Henry married Leila M. (maiden name unknown) around 1917, probably in Washington. This was Leila’s first marriage. Leila was born on May 4, 1881 in Iowa.

Henry Walter Wickliffe died on August 17, 1961 in Los Angeles County, California, just three months after his 93^rd birthday.

Leila passed away nine years later on the day after Christmas, in the same county. She died on December 26, 1970 at the age of 89 years.

William Washington Wickliffe (1837- )

William Washington Wickliffe

Son of John Davis Wickliffe & Rachel Oates Boggess

William Washington Wickliffe was born on October 31, 1837 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. He was the first child born to John D. Wickliffe, but the seventh born to Rachel Oates Boggess Wickliffe.

William Wickliffe married Sarah Jane Porter on April 10, 1867 in Muhlenberg, Kentucky. He was 29 years old and she was 31 years. Sallie was born in October 1835 in Kentucky. William and Sallie settled their family on a farm in the city of Boggess in Muhlenberg County. Like his father, William was a farmer. He and Sallie had three children:

Minnie J. born in 1870

Robert Lee born in 1872

All three children were born in the city of Boggess, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Sometime between 1872 and 1880 William moved his family to Montague County, Texas, where they are found in the 1880 and the 1900 U.S. Federal Census.

It is difficult to find a death date for either William or Sallie, as Texas does not have a comprehensive database for deaths in the early 1900’s.
