Ethel R. Ragsdale

Ethel R. Ragsdale was born on June 10, 1893, most likely in Pottsville, Pope County, Arkansas. Ethel was the first of four children born to Albert and Lillas Ragsdale.
Ethel married Elijah Madison Hammond on September 30, 1919 in Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas. She was 26 years old and he was 30 years. Elijah was born on January 8, 1889 in Martinville, Faulkner County, Arkansas. After their marriage, they lived at number 44 Plummer Street in Plummerville, Pope County, Arkansas.
Elijah enlisted for World War I on June 5, 1917. He was a self-employed Grocery Merchant at that time. He was tall, of medium build, with blue eyes and dark brown hair.
In 1930, Elijah and Ethel were living at number 411 South Erie Avenue in Illinois, Pope County, Arkansas, where Elijah was a employed as a Candy Jobber. They had no children listed in the 1930 Census.
Elijah Madison Hammond died on March 7, 1957 in Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas, at the age of 68. Ethel went on to live another 22 years after her husband’s passing. Ethel R. Ragsdale Hammond died in June of 1979, close to her 86th birthday, also in Russellville.
