James Garfield Torry (1881-1962)


James Garfield Torry was born September 10, 1881 in Grant County, Louisiana.  He was the son of Lycurgus Eugene Torry and Lucy Anna Williamson. He was raised in Grant County, Louisiana.

James lived and worked on the family farm in Bently, Grant County, Louisiana for most of his life.  After his father died in 1906, James continued to help his mother with the farm labor and lived with her until her death in 1932.

On September 12, 1918, James registered for the draft for World War I in Colfax, Grant County, Louisiana.  He was described as of medium height and slender build, with brown eyes and hair.

James Garfield Torry died on December 9, 1962 in Grant County, Louisiana.  He was 81 years old at his death.
