Liberty
Voshell "Libby" Stevenson was
born June 4, 1900 in Union, Boone County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of George H. Stevenson and Florence May Clements. She was
raised on the family farm in Union.
Liberty married Fitzhugh Lee Tanner
around 1918, probably in Boone County.
She was 17 years old and he was 18 years. Fitzhugh was born May 11, 1899 in Kentucky,
the son of Henry Louis Tanner and Carrie Neomie Vaughan.
Fitzhugh registered for the draft for
the First World War on September 12, 1918 in Boone County. At that time, he and Librty lived in
Erlanger, Kenton County, Kentucky, where Fitzhugh worked as a farmer. Fitzhugh was described as of medium height
and build, with grey eyes and dark hair.
He did not serve in the war.
In 1930, Fitzhugh and Liberty lived on
Shelby Street in Florence, Boone County, Kentucky, where he was employed as an
insurance agent.
Liberty Voshell Tanner died on May 17,
1938 in Union, Boone County, Kentucky.
The cause of death was “broncho-pneumonia tuberculosis.” She was 37 years old at her death. She was buried at Big Bone Cemetery in Boone
County.
Fitzhugh Lee Tanner went on to live
another 39 years after the death of his wife.
He died on November 6, 1977 in Florence, Boone County, Kentucky.
