James S. Stevenson (1822- )



James S. Stevenson was born in November 1822 in Germantown, Bracken County, Kentucky.  He was the son of Stephen Stevenson and Fanny Proctor.  James was raised on the family farm in Bracken County.


By 1850, James had become a physician.  At that time, he was living with his widowed mother, and five of his brothers and sisters. 


James married Elizabeth J. Huey on October 20, 1853 in Boone County, Kentucky.  He was 31 years old and she was 20 years.  Elizabeth was born about 1833 in Boone County.


James and Elizabeth were the parents of four children.  On June 1, 1854, Elizabeth gave birth to triplet girls at just 5 months gestation.  The infants did not survive.  One year later, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

Elizabeth J. Huey Stevenson died sometime between 1855 and 1860 in Boone County, Kentucky.  She was in her mid 20’s when she died.


After the death of his wife, James and his son, George, moved in with his sister, Mary Ann Murphy, and her family in Walton, Boone County, Kentucky.


On July 1, 1863 James enlisted for service in the Civil War as a doctor. 


In 1870, James and his son were living with his brother, John, and his family in Kenton County, Kentucky.  By 1880, they were living with James’ mother in Boone County.


In 1900, James was renting a farm in Hamilton, Boone County, Kentucky with his brother, Charles.
