Dr. Frank Dale French (1874-1941)

Dr. Frank Dale French was born on September 20, 1874 in Preston, Jackson County, Iowa.  He was the son of Melvin J. French and Mary L. Wyatt.  Frank was raised in Van Buren, Jackson County, Iowa.

In 1900, Frank and his widowed mother were living on North Olive Street in Maquoketa, Jackson County, Iowa.  Frank was working as a dry goods salesman at that time.

Frank married Marie Frances Henry around 1901, probably in Jackson County, Iowa.  He was 26 years old and she was 29 years.  Marie was born on November 27, 1871 in DeWitt, Clinton County, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Wilson Henry and Amorilla Spencer Sanger.

Frank and Marie had one child:

Genevieve H. French          born in 1903

Genevieve was born around 1903 in New York State.  In the 1920 US Census, Genevieve’s parents are listed as being born in France; however, Frank and Marie were listed as having been born in Iowa.  I wonder if she was adopted, as she was not listed in the 1910 US Census in the household of Frank French.

In 1910, Frank and Marie were living in Grand River, Cass County, Missouri.  Frank’s brother, Wilton, and his family were living nearby.  Both Frank and Wilton were partners in a dental office.

Frank registered for the draft for the First World War on September 12, 1918 in Harrisonville, Cass County, Missouri.  He was described as of medium height and build, with blue eyes and light brown hair.  Frank did not serve in the war.

In 1930, Frank and Marie were living in a home on Westport Avenue in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, where Frank continued his dental practice.

Marie Frances Henry French died on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1934 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  She was laid to rest in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa, Jackson County, Iowa.  Marie was 63 years old at her death.

In 1940, Frank was living with his nephew, Melvin French, and his family on Pennsylvania Street in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  Melvin was the son of Frank’s brother, Wilton.

Dr. Frank Dale French died on October 20, 1941 in the Kansas City General Hospital in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  He died from internal bleeding, as a result from an accidental fall in his home.  Frank was buried in the Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, Cass County, Missouri.  He was 67 years old at his death.
