Orestus Gertrude Stansbury (1888-1944)

Orestus Gertrude “Ora” Stansbury was born on May 19, 1888 in Missouri.  She was the daughter of Samuel Stansbury and Josephine Stewart Wilson.

Ora married Walter John Ainsworth around 1908 in Harper County, Kansas.  She was 20 years old and he was 23 years.  Walter was born in September 1885 in Rush County, Kansas, the son of James R. Ainsworth and Martha E. Sinnet.

Walter and Ora had two children:

Erma A. Ainsworth               born September 17, 1910
Arthur Glen Ainsworth        born 1913

After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm next to Ora’s parents in Chicaskia, Harper County, Kansas.

Walter and Ora separated sometime between 1912 and 1915.  Ora and her children were living with her parents in Chicaskia from 1915 until at least 1925.  In the 1925 Kansas Census, Ora’s marital status was listed as “divorced.”

By 1930, Ora had remarried to Fredrick Wilhelm “Fred” Schiefelbine.  This was Fred’s second marriage as well.  He was born on October 10, 1885 in Kansas, the son of Leo Earnest Schiefelbine and Earnestine Urban.

After her marriage, Ora’s children continued living with her parents in Chicaskia, Harper County, Kansas.  Fred and Ora made their home on Fred’s farm in Bennett, Kingman County, Kansas.

Fred and Ora moved to California sometime between 1940 and 1942.  Fred registered for the draft for the Second World War in 1942 in San Diego County, California.  He was 57 years old at that time and working in Fallbrook, San Diego County, California.

Orestus Gertrude Stansbury Ainsworth Schiefelbine died on July 21, 1944 in San Diego County, California.  She was buried in the Upchurch Cemetery in Norwich, Kingman County, Kansas.  Ora was 56 years old at her death.
