Laura Alice Barron (1878-1961)

Laura Alice Barron was born on May 17, 1878 in Rapides Parrish, Louisiana.  She was the daughter of Riley Eugene Barron and Alice Laurette Nugent.

Laura married James Peyton LaCroix on December 16, 1898 in Catahoula Parrish, Louisiana.  She was 20 years old and he was 27 years.  James was born on September 3, 1871 in Rapides Parrish, Louisiana, the son of Isaac LaCroix and Theodosia Ann Vance.

James and Laura had at least seven children:

Peyton LaCroix                                 born 1912
One child, born and died between 1900 and 1910

After their marriage, the couple settled in a rented home in Catahoula Parrish, Louisiana, where James worked as a fireman.

By 1910, James and Laura had relocated to a farm in Grant Parrish, Louisiana.  Laura was listed as the mother of six children, with five still living.

In 1920, the family was living on Cemetery Street in Pineville, Rapides Parrish, Louisiana.

Sometime between 1920 and 1930, James, Laura, and their son, Alton, moved to Brawley, Imperial County, California.  While there, James was employed as a gardener for a school.

Laura was listed as next of kin for her brother, Henry Cornelius Barron, on his draft record for WWII in 1942.  At that time, she and James were living on Route 1 in Pineville, Rapides Parrish, Louisiana.

James Peyton LaCroix died on July 14, 1944 in Rapides Parrish, Louisiana.  He was buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Green Gables, Rapides Parrish, Louisiana.  He was 72 years old at his death.

Laura Alice Barron LaCroix died on June 4, 1961 in Louisiana.  She was buried alongside her husband in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Green Gables.  Also laid to rest in that cemetery are her mother, Alice Laurette Nugent Barron, and her grandmother, Amanda Antionette Sims Boggess.
