James H. Hall was born June 21, 1893 in McCulloch County, Texas. He was the eldest of three children born to Joseph Hall and Mary Virginia Boggus. He was raised in McCulloch County.
James married Martha Ellen Hagerman around 1920, probably in Paducah, Cottle County, Texas. He was 26 years old and she was 18 years. Martha was born September 24, 1901 in Kimble County, Texas, the daughter of William Edward Hagerman and Delsie Cummins. James and Martha had at least one child:

After their marriage, James and Martha moved to Oklahoma. By 1930, the family had moved back to Texas. They lived on Sunset Avenue in Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas. James was listed as a veteran of the First World War in the 1930 Census.
James H. Hall died on January 23, 1994 in Brady, McCulloch County, Texas. He was 100 years old at his death.
