Henry Clay Stevenson (1855-1941)



Henry Clay Stevenson was born February 13, 1855 in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky.  He was the son of John Edgar Stevenson and Mary Ann Scholes.  Henry was raised in Covington. 

On October 20, 1921, Henry married Anna Dombrowski in Hamilton County, Ohio.  Although they were listed as “married” in the 1920 US Census, Henry and Anna were not officially married until 1921.  He was 66 years old and she was 31 years.  Anna was born November 30, 1889 in Russian Poland, the daughter of Joseph Dombrowski and Adella Gabrielowitz. 

Henry and Anna settled their family in a home at 243 Kiser Street in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, where he was employed as a solicitor for a household furnishings company.  The couple had at least four children:

Helen                           born 1917
Virginia                        born 1919

Henry Clay Stevenson died on March 19, 1941 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.  He was 86 years old at his death.  Henry was buried in Linden Grove Cemetery in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky.

Anna Dombrowski died 45 years later, on June 24, 1986 in Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio.  She was 96 years old.

William Byrd Stevenson (1853-1929)



William Byrd Stevenson was born January 11, 1853 in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky.  He was the son of John Edgar Stevenson and Mary Ann Scholes.  William was raised in Covington.

William died on January 4, 1929 in West Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky.  He was 75 years old at his death.  William was buried in Linden Grove Cemetery in Covington.

His death certificate listed his home in West Covington and his occupation as a salesman.  It also lists his deceased wife, Anna Stevenson.  The informant was his brother, Edgar Stevenson.

John Edgar Stevenson (1827-1900)



John Edgar Stevenson was born January 5, 1827 in Bracken County, Kentucky.  He was the son of Stephen Stevenson and Fanny Proctor.  John was raised on the family farm in Bracken County.

John married Mary Ann Scholes September 16, 1851 in Bracken County, Kentucky.  He was 24 years old and she was 18 years.  Mary was born June 8, 1833 in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, the daughter of William Scholes and Amanda Powell.

After their marriage, John and Mary settled their family in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, where John worked as a doctor.  The couple had seven children:

In 1900, John and Mary were living in a home on Wright Street in Covington County, Kentucky.  Living with them, were their sons, Charles and John, and their granddaughter, Ethel.

John Edgar Stevenson died at home on September 19, 1900 in Covington.  He was 73 years old at his death.  John was buried in Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Kenton County, Kentucky. 

Mary Ann Scholes Stevenson died on January 30, 1917 in Covington, at the age of 84 years.  She was also buried in Highland Cemetery.

Charles B. Stevenson (1835-1907)



Charles B. Stevenson was born in January 1835 in Germantown, Bracken County, Kentucky.  He was the son of Stephen Stevenson and Fanny Proctor.  Charles was raised on the family farm in Bracken County.

On June 19, 1861, Charles enlisted for service in the Civil War, in company D of the Indiana 13th Regiment Infantry, which was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana.  The infantry left the state of Indiana for West Virginia on July 4, 1861.  Charles mustered out on June 20, 1864. 

Charles’ military service likely included the following battles:

Battle of Rich Mountain, Virginia on July 11, 1861
Battle of Winchester March 23, 1862
Siege of Suffolk, Virginia, April 12-May 4 1863
Battle of Drury's Bluff May 14-16, 1864
Battles about Cold Harbor June 1-12, 1864

During service in the war, the Indiana 13th Regiment Infantry lost a total of 255 men: 3 officers and 104 enlisted men killed and mortally wounded; and 2 officers and 146 enlisted men by disease.

Charles suffered some injuries during the war, but was able to go home to his family.  In 1880, he was living in Big Boone, Boone County, Kentucky, near his mother and siblings, doing farm work.

Charles was checked in to the U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Dayton, Ohio on September 25, 1891.  His diagnosis upon registering at the home was varicose veins on his left leg as well as varicocele.  He was 55 years old at that time, and described as 5’ 11” tall, with grey hair and eyes.

In 1900, Charles was renting a farm in Hamilton, Boone County, Kentucky with his brother, James. 

On September 2, 1905, Charles was re-admitted into U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Dayton, Ohio. 

Charles B. Stevenson died at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio on October 29, 1907, at the age of 72 years.  The cause of death listed was “acute cardiac dilatation.”  His sister, Mary Ann Murphy was notified of her brother’s death the next day via telegraph.
