William Edward “Willie” Wright was born on November 14, 1896 in Petie Jean, Logan County,
Arkansas. He was the son of James E. Wright and Mary E. “Mollie” Bonds. William
was raised on the family farm in Logan County, Arkansas.
William married Annie
Medina Loyd on November 29, 1914 in Logan County, Arkansas. He was 19 years old and she was 18
years. Medina was born on October 28,
1896 in Texas, the daughter of Joseph LaRue Loyd and Ida Lu Williams.
William and Medina
were the parents of four children:
Foy Berlydine Wright born December 11, 1915
Van Edward Wright born November 16, 1918
Helen Irene Wright born August 4, 1922
James Loyd Wright born July 10, 1924
William registered for
the draft for the First World War on June 5, 1918 in Paris, Logan County,
Arkansas. At that time, he and Medina
were living in Magazine, Logan County, Arkansas, where William worked as a
farmer. He was described as of medium
height and build, with blue eyes and black hair. William did not serve in the war.
In 1920, William and
Media and their children were living and working on a farm in Revilee, Logan
County, Arkansas.
By 1930, William and
Media had moved their family to a farm in Turkey Creek, Washita County, Oklahoma. They remained in Turkey Creek at least until
1940.
William Edward Wright
died on April 6, 1978 in Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma. He was buried in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk
City. He was 81 years old at his death.
Annie Media Loyd
Wright died in April 1986 in Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma. She was laid to rest beside her husband in
the Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City. She
was 89 years old at her death.
