Edward Tilghman Chew (1876-1956)

Edward Tilghman Chew was born on September 3, 1876 in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  He was the son of Frisby Freeland Chew and Julia A. Fuller.  Edward was raised in Houston, where his father worked as a lawyer.

In 1900, Edward was living with his parents and siblings in a house on Dallas Avenue in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  Edward took after his father and became a lawyer.

Edward married Famma K. Reynolds on August 26, 1909 in Harris County, Texas.  He was just one week shy of his 33rd birthday, and she was 28 years old.  Famma was born on January 4, 1881 in Terra Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

Edward and Famma had one child, a son, born on April 27, 1910 in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  The infant lived only three weeks.  He died on May 19, 1910 and was buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.

Famma K. Reynolds Chew died just two weeks after the passing of her baby.  She died on June 3, 1910 in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  She was buried next to her child in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Shortly after the death of his wife, Edward married Elizabeth Alice Atkeison.  She was born on February 7, 1883 in Faulkner County, Arkansas.  She was the daughter of Lee Beauregard Atkeison and Kate Hale Graham.

After their marriage, the couple lived in a home on Hathaway Street in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  Edward’s income as an attorney was such that they were able to afford a cook and housekeeper.

On September 12, 1918, Edward enlisted for service in the First World War.  At that time, he and Elizabeth were living in a home on Hathaway Avenue in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  Edward continued his work as an attorney.  He was described as of medium height and build, with brown eyes and dark hair.  He did not serve in the war.
