Elizabeth Celia Utley
Elizabeth Celia Utley was born October 26, 1873 in Seminary, Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was the fourth of five children born to William Obediah Utley and Cynthia Ann Wickliffe. She was raised on the family farm in Seminary, Hopkins County, Kentucky.
Bettie married John Davis Nourse on October 4, 1893 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was 20 years old and he was 22 years. John was born March 6, 1871 in Madisonville, the son of James Robert Nourse and Mary Harpending Davis.
By 1910, John and Bettie had established themselves on a farm on Pleasant View Road, in Madisonville. It was located near the farm of Aspasia Utley, Bettie’s older brother. John and Bettie had three children:
James Frank born March 2, 1895
Irene Delle born February 27, 1897
Martha Ann born November 14, 1903
John and Bettie lived the remainder of their lives on their family farm in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky.
Elizabeth Celia Utley Nourse died on January 26, 1949 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. She was 75 years old at her death. John followed exactly six years later. John Davis Nourse died on January 2, 1955 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. He was 83 years old at his death.
