Cecelia Boggess (1863- )

Cecelia Boggess was born around 1863 in Harrisonville, Cass County, Missouri.  She was the second child born to Richard Oates Boggess & Sarah Elizabeth Railey. 

Cecelia is found in the 1870 US Census with her parents and her brother, Earle.  At that time, they were living in Grand River, Cass County, Missouri.  Cecelia’s father was working as a lawyer at that time.

Earle Montrose Boggess (1861-1948)

Earle Montrose Boggess

Son of Richard Oates Boggess & Sarah Elizabeth Railey

Earle Montrose Boggess was born August 19, 1861 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas.  He was the eldest child born to Richard Oates Boggess and Sarah Elizabeth Railey.  Earle lived most of his life in Cass County, Missouri.

Around 1884, Earle married Harriett A. "Hattie" Gaugh in Cass County, Missouri.  He was 23 years old and she was 18 years.  Hattie was born April 5, 1866 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  She was the daughter of James Percival Gaugh of Kentucky and Martha Magdalene White of Missouri.

Earle and Hattie raised their family in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri, where he managed a division of the Chicago Lumber Company, a lumber yard.  They became the parents of nine children:

Hattie A. Guagh Boggess died on August 14, 1929 in the Excelsior Springs Hospital in Clay County, Missouri.  She died of kidney and heart failure.  Hattie had been a resident of Scandia, Republic County, Kansas before her death.  She was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery of Excelsior Springs.  She was 63 years old at her death.

Earle was living with his son, William, in Scandia, Republic County, Kansas in 1930.  He was the manager of a lumber yard there, and William was going to school.

Earle Montrose Boggess died on May 5, 1948 in the Sharp home located at 4102 Lincoln, Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.  He suffered from heart failure, due to chronic inflammation of the heart muscles, which had been going on for five years.  He was also buried in Crown Hill Cemetery of Excelsior Springs.  He was 86 years old.

Richard Oates Boggess (1833-1896)

Richard Oates Boggess was born on April 27, 1833 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was the last of six children born to Lemuel Boggess, Sr. and Rachel Oates .  His father died the same year Richard was born, and his mother remarried three years later.  He grew up on the family farm in Muhlenberg, and eventually became the sixth of thirteen children.

Richard married Sarah Elizabeth “Sallie” Railey on June 19, 1860 in Cass County, Missouri.  He was 26 years old and she was 19 years.  Sallie was born on May 14, 1840 in Lawrenceburg, Anderson County, Kentucky, the daughter of Tarleton Railey and Mary W. Blackwell.

After their marriage, Richard and Sallie settled in Harrisonville, Cass County, Missouri, where Richard was employed as an attorney.  They had two children:

In 1870, Richard and Sallie and their children were living in Grand River, Cass County, Missouri. 

By 1880, the family had moved to Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. 

Richard Oates Boggess died on August 3, 1896 in Jackson County, Missouri.  He was buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.  He was 63 years old at his death.

In 1900, Sallie was living with her married sister, Catherine “Kittie” Hocker, in her home in Salt Pond, Saline County, Missouri.  Her widowed mother was also listed in the household. 

Sarah Elizabeth Railey Boggess died on December 19, 1903 in Jackson County, Missouri.  She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.  She was 68 years old at her death.
