Martha Ann Nourse (1902-1987)

Daughter of John Davis Nourse & Elizabeth Celia Utley

Martha Ann Nourse was born on November 14, 1902 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was the youngest of three children born to John Davis Nourse and Elizabeth Celia Utley.

Martha married Maurice K. Long on May 2, 1921, in Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was 18 years old and he was 20 years. Maurice was born on November 15, 1900 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky.

In 1930, Maurice and Martha were living at 1442 Ingleside in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. Maurice was employed as an office manager for a newspaper agency there in Jacksonville. They had two children at that time: Betty Sue, born in 1902, and Maurice W., born in 1926.

Martha Ann Nourse Long died on November 3, 1987, just eleven days before her 85^th birthday. She was living in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida at the time of her death. Maurice survived his wife by eleven years.

Maurice K. Long died in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida on August 27, 1998 at the age of 97 years.

Irene Delle Nourse (1897-1983)

Irene Delle Nourse

Daughter of John Davis Nourse & Elizabeth Celia Utley

Irene Delle Nourse was born on February 27, 1897 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was the second of three children born to John Davis Nourse and Elizabeth Celia Utley.

Irene married William Marion Clement on March 23, 1917 in the county of her birth. She was 20 years old and he was 21 years. William was born on October 22, 1896 in the same county.

On June 5, 1918, William registered for the draft for World War I. He was working for R.S. Clement in Richland, Kentucky. At that time, he and Irene were living on RFD#1 in Madisonville. William was described as tall, with grey eyes and brown hair.

William Marion Clement died on December 17, 1981. His last known residence was Morton’s Gap, Hopkins County, Kentucky. He was 85 years old at his death. Irene went on to live just 20 months after her husband’s death. Irene Delle Nourse Clement died on August 16, 1983, in the same place as her husband. She was 86 years old at her death.

James Frank Nourse (1895-1990)

James Frank Nourse

James Frank Nourse was born on March 2, 1895 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. He was the eldest of three children born to John Davis Nourse and Elizabeth Celia Utley.

On June 5, 1917, Frank registered for the draft for World War I. He was laboring as a farmer at that time. He was described as medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair. He did not serve in the war.

Frank married Bethel Cavanah on December 26, 1927 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. He was 32 years old and she was 23 years. Bethel was born on August 3, 1904 in Hopkins County.

In 1930, Frank and Bethel were renting a farm in Kitchen, Hopkins County. Their rent was $8.00 per month. Frank was working in a coal mine at that time.

James Frank Nourse died on November 20, 1990 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. He was 95 years old at his death. Bethel Cavanah Nourse died three years later on January 6, 1994. She died in Los Alamitos, Orange County, California, at the age of 89 years.

Elizabeth Celia Utley (1873-1949)

Son of William Obediah Utley & Cynthia Ann Wickliffe

Elizabeth Celia Utley was born October 26, 1873 in Seminary, Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was the fourth of five children born to William Obediah Utley and Cynthia Ann Wickliffe. She was raised on the family farm in Seminary, Hopkins County, Kentucky.

Bettie married John Davis Nourse on October 4, 1893 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was 20 years old and he was 22 years. John was born March 6, 1871 in Madisonville, the son of James Robert Nourse and Mary Harpending Davis.

By 1910, John and Bettie had established themselves on a farm on Pleasant View Road, in Madisonville. It was located near the farm of Aspasia Utley, Bettie’s older brother. John and Bettie had three children:

Irene Delle born February 27, 1897

Martha Ann born November 14, 1903

John and Bettie lived the remainder of their lives on their family farm in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky.

Elizabeth Celia Utley Nourse died on January 26, 1949 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. She was 75 years old at her death. John followed exactly six years later. John Davis Nourse died on January 2, 1955 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. He was 83 years old at his death.
