William Boggess was born around 1908 in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.  He was the last of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess and Hattie A. Gaugh. 

William was still living with his father in Scandia, Republic County, Kansas in 1930.  His father was the manager of a lumber yard there, and William was going to school.

Harriet Boggess was born around 1902 in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.  She was the eighth of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess and Hattie A. Gaugh.

Norma B. Boggess (1899-1979)

Norma B. Boggess was born June 13, 1899 in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.  She was the seventh of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess and Hattie A. Gaugh. 

On September 9, 1919, Norma married Dick Bland Dale, probably in Ray County, Missouri.  She was 20 years old and he was one month shy of 26 years.  Ray was born on October 1, 1893 in Richmond, Ray County, Missouri.  He was the son of Willis G. Dale and Lucy Keys, both of Missouri.

Two years before their marriage, Dick enlisted for service in World War I on June 5, 1917 in Richmond, Missouri.  He was working on his father’s farm at the time.  He was described as medium height and build, with brown eyes and light hair.  He did not serve in the war.

After their marriage, Dick and Norma made their home in Richmond, Ray County, Missouri, where Dick was employed as an insurance agent.  They had at least one child:

           

            Dick Bland, Jr.          born November 21, 1925

In 1930, Dick and Norma owned a home on East Lexington Street in Richmond.  Their home was valued at $6,000 and Dick was working as a Lawyer. 

            Dick Bland Dale died at the age of 51, on December 8, 1944 in Richmond, Ray County, Missouri.  Norma went on to live another 35 years after the death of her husband.  She died in September 1979 in Ray County, Missouri, at the age of 80 years.

Earle Montrose Boggess, Jr. (1896-1962)

Earle Montrose Boggess, Jr. was born on December 16, 1896 in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.  He was the sixth of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess & Hattie A. Gaugh.  

Earle registered for the draft for World War I on June 5, 1918 in Newkirk, Kay County, Oklahoma.  He was working for the Empire Ref. Company in Ponca City, Oklahoma.  He was 5’ 10” tall and weighed 140 pounds, with blue eyes and light hair.  He was a veteran of the First World War. 

On May 12, 1926, Earle married Genevieve H. French in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  He was 27 years old and she was 22 years.  Earle’s brother, Montrose, witnessed the marriage. 

Genevieve was born around 1903 in New York State, the daughter of Dr. Frank Dale French and Marie Frances Henry.  In the 1920 US Census, Genevieve’s parents are listed as being born in France; however, Frank and Marie were listed as having been born in Iowa.  I wonder if she was adopted, as she was not listed in the 1910 US Census in the household of Frank French.

Earle and Genevieve were the parents of two children:

Just before his marriage, Earle was a resident of Bakersfield, Kern County, California. After their marriage, Earle and Genevieve moved from Missouri to California.

In 1930, they were living at 4225 Avocado Street in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.  They were renting a home for $48.00 per month.  Earle was employed as a foreman for an oil company.  

Earle Montrose Boggess, Jr. died on April 16, 1962 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.  He was 65 years old at his death.

Earle M. Boggess, 65, export manager for Baker Oil Tools, Inc., died Monday of a heart condition.  He was also vice president and general manager of Baker Trans World, Inc., a subsidiary in Canada and South America.  He was a past president of the Los Angeles chapter of Nomads, and oil industry organization.  He lived at 64 Roycroft Ave., Long Beach.  Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Dilday Mortuary in Long Beach.  He leaves his widow, Genevieve; a daughter, Mrs. Helene B. Greytak; a son, Morton, and two grandchildren.

Tarleton Railey Boggess

Son of Earle Montrose Boggess & Hattie A. Gaugh

Tarleton Railey Boggess was born August 20, 1894 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  He was the fourth of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess and Hattie A. Gaugh. 

Tarleton attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and was a member of the Kansas City Club and the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  There are two photos of Tarleton included in the university’s 1913 and 1914 yearbooks.

In 1917, Tarleton was living in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.  He was working as a bookkeeper for the Chicago Lumber Company, the same company where his father worked.  In 1920, Tarleton was working as a clerk at a lumber yard in Ponca City, Kay County, Oklahoma.  He was single at that time.

In 1952, Tarleton is found in the “Polk’s Ponca City Directory.”  He is listed as the Commissioner of Public Property for the city. 

Tarleton Railey Boggess died in September 1970 at the age of 76.  He died in Ponca City, Kay County, Oklahoma.

Richard Oates "R.O." Boggess (1892-1914)

Richard Oates “R. O.” Boggess was born on August 28, 1892 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  He was the fourth of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess & Hattie A. Gaugh. 

In 1910, R.O. was living with his parents and siblings in their home on Kimball Avenue in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri. 

Richard Oates Boggess died two weeks before his 22^nd birthday, on August 13, 1914 in Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas.  He was buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.

Eula A. Boggess (1890-1970)

Eula A. Boggess was born February 12, 1890 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. She was the third of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess & Hattie A. Gaugh. 

On June 29, 1919, Eula married Charles Egbert Mains in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. Charles was born on December 4, 1888 and lived in Butler, Bates County, Missouri, the son of Isaac Newton Mains and Alice Euphamia Rose. Eula was 29 years old at the time of her marriage, and Charles was 32 years. 

After their marriage, the couple made their home in Mt. Pleasant, Bates County, Missouri, where Charles was employed as a bookkeeper at a grain elevator. 

Charles and Eula moved to California around 1922, where he was employed as a public accountant, and she was a teacher. Both were registered to vote in Alameda County from 1922-1944. The couple was living in the McKinley Court Apartments in Berkley from 1924-1930, and then they moved to 1850 Arch Street, where they lived at least until 1944. Charles was registered as a Democrat, and Eula as a Republican.

Charles Egbert Mains died on November 14, 1957 in Berkley, Alameda County, California, just before his 69th birthday. 

Eula went on to live another 13 years after the death of her husband. Eula A. Boggess Mains died on October 20, 1970 in Berkley, Alameda County, California. She was 80 years old.

Celia A. Boggess (1885- )

Celia A. Boggess

Daughter of Earle Montrose Boggess & Hattie A. Gaugh

 

Celia A. Boggess was born in December 1885, probably in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  She was the eldest of nine children born to Earle Montrose Boggess and Hattie A. Gaugh. 

On December 27, 1909, Celia married Julian Western Obear in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.  She was 24 years old and he was 30 years.  Julian was born on December 21, 1879 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of William Frank Obear and Elsie Underwood Henry.

In 1910, the newlyweds were renting a room at the Rosalind Hotel on Forest Avenue in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.  Julian was employed as a glass worker at the Ober-Nestor Glass Company, located just across the Mississippi River, in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Julian enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1905 and then enlisted for service in the first World War on September 9, 1918.  He and Celia were living at 3504 Gillham Road in Kansas City, Missouri at that time. 

Julian enlisted for service in World War II on April 27, 1942, while he was living in Seattle, Washington.  He was 6’2”, 190 lbs, with a light complexion, brown eyes, and grey hair.  He was working for L.J. Pfister, located in Cleveland, Ohio, and traveling between California, Oregon, and Washington.  His personal contact was his wife’s sister, Mrs. C.E. Mains in Berkely, California.

Julian Western Obear died on January 25, 1945 in Seattle, Washington at the age of 62.
