Marshall Torry (1879- )


Marshall Torry was born November 26, 1879 in Grant County, Louisiana.  He was the son of Lycurgus Eugene Torry and Lucy Anna Williamson. He was raised in Grant County, Louisiana.

Marshall married Udora “Dora” Brooks around 1902 in Grant County, Louisiana.  He was 22 years old and she was 20 years.  Dora was born in February 1882 in Louisiana, the daughter of Robert Arthur Brooks and Nancy Jane Pipes.  Marshall and Dora had at least seven children, six of which were listed in the 1930 census:

After their marriage, Marshall and Dora settled their family on a farm in Grant County, Louisiana, where they were found in the 1910 and 1930 census. 

Marshall registered for the draft for the First World War on September 12, 1918 in Colfax, Grant County, Louisiana.  He was described as of medium height and build, with blue eyes and brown hair.

Sarah Ann Boggus (1847-1875)

Sarah “Sallie” Ann Boggus was born October 9, 1847 in Hempstead County, Arkansas.  She was the daughter of Peter Boggess and Amanda M. West.  She was raised in Hempstead County, Arkansas and Rapides County, Louisiana.

Sallie married Lycurgus Eugene “L. E.” or “Kirk” Torry on January 10, 1861 in Rapides County, Louisiana.  She was 13 years old and he was 22 years.  L. E. was born on November 19, 1838 in Claiborne, Monroe County, Alabama, and the son of David Alexander Torry.  L. E. and Sallie had six children:

Sarah Ann Boggus Torry died on Christmas Day, December 25, 1875 in Rapides County, Louisiana.  She was just 28 years old at her death.


L. E. married Lucy Anna Williamson around 1877 in either Rapides or Grant County, Louisiana.  Lucy was born on May 19, 1855 in Grant County, the daughter of Dempsey Winburn Williamson and Lucy Anna Coleman.  L. E. and Lucy had twelve children:

In 1880, L. E. and his family were living in Grant County, Louisiana, where L. E. was employed as a store clerk.  In 1900, they were living and working on a farm in Pollock, Grant County.

Lycurgus Eugene Torry died on May 26, 1906 in Grant County, Louisiana.  He was 67 years old at his death.

1910 found Lucy and her children living and working on a farm in Bently, Grant County, Louisiana.  In 1930, Lucy was living on the family farm with her two sons, James and Samuel.

Lucy Anna Williamson Torry died on June 8, 1932 in Dry Prong, Grant County, Louisiana.  She was 77 years old at her death.
