Robert Earle Holberg, Sr. (1898-1974)

Robert Earle Holberg, Sr.

Son of Joseph Herman Holberg & Ruth Boggess 

Robert Earle Holberg, Sr. was born on October 17, 1898 in Mississippi.  He was the second of six children born to Joseph Herman Holberg and Ruth Boggess. 

Robert married Doress Coley in June 1918 in Texas.  He was 19 years old and she was 17 years.  Doress was born November 12, 1900 in Louisiana, the daughter of Alcide Coley and Alice Harrison.  After their marriage, Robert and Doress settled in Houston, Harris County, Texas, and stayed in that area the rest of their lives. 

Robert registered for the draft for World War I on September 12, 1918.  At that time, he and Doress were living in a home 229 West 21^st Street in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  Robert was working as a ship carpenter for the Universal Shipbuilding Company in Houston.  He was described as medium height and slender build with brown hair and eyes.  He did not serve in the war.

In 1930, Robert and Doress were renting a home on 4009 Dover Street in Houston.  He was working as an engineer for the city water company.  They had two children at that time:

            Robert Earle, Jr.       born December 14, 1919

            Millard Harrison        born in 1924

Robert Earle Holberg, Sr. died on February 7, 1974 in Houston, Harris County, Texas, at the age of 75 years.  Doress went on to live another fifteen years after her husband’s death.  She died on August 7, 1989 in the same county.  Doress was 88 years old at her death.
