Kelon Davis Wickliffe (1847- )

Kelon Davis Wickliffe

Kelon Davis Wickliffe was born in October 1847 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was the sixth child born to John D. Wickliffe, but the twelfth born to Rachel Oates Boggess Wickliffe.

Kelon married Anna Elizabeth DePoyster on October 8, 1879 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was 32 years old and she was 21 years.  Annie was born on May 25, 1856 in Kentucky, the daughter of Riley DePoyster and Hulda Williams.

In 1900, Kelon and Annie were renting a farm in Boggess, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  They were the parents of seven children:

(Child)                        born and died between 1879/1900
            (Child)                        born after 1879
            Willie L.                      born May 1883
            Robert R.                   born February 1885
            Mary G.                      born December 1887
            Claude M.                  born January 1893
            Annie                         born December 1895

Anna Elizabeth DePoyster Wickliffe died on September 30, 1925 in Central City, Muhlenberg, Kentucky.  Her death resulted from lymphoma, or cancer of the lymph nodes, from which she had suffered for two years preceding her death.  She was 69 years old at her death.

Kelon Davis Wickliffe died sometime before 1925, as Annie was listed as a widow on her death certificate.

One of Kelon’s and Annie’s children has a death certificate on record.  The name on the certificate is W.C. “Bob” Wickliffe.  There is conflicting information on the death certificate, so I cannot tell which child he is.  The birth date listed is April 28, 1875, the death date is June 14, 1913, and his age is listed as 28 years old.  Obviously, all of that information cannot be correct.  I suspect he is either Willie or Robert, but I cannot be sure.  W.C. had been employed by the Illinois Central Railroad Company as a railroad section hand.  The cause of death was “being struck by a train, or in other words trying to catch a train.”  W.C. was married at the time of his death; his wife’s name was listed as Mrs. W.C. Wickliffe.
