Addison Turner (1885-1913)

Addison Turner was born on October 16, 1885 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was the first of four children born to Frances “Frank” Turner and Virginia Mary “Jennie” Boggess.

Addison was raised in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  In 1900, his family was living on a farm in Boggess, where his father worked as a farmer.

Addison married Alma Ruth Crunk in 1906 in Muhlenberg or Hopkins County, Kentucky.  He was 20 years old and she was 17 years.  Ruth was born in October 1888 in Kentucky, the daughter of George T. Crunk and Elizabeth Crick.

Addison and Ruth were the parents of three children:

(Female) Turner                   born March 22, 1907, died before 1910
Lawson E Turner                 born December 18, 1908
Nevileen Turner                   born August 5, 1911

In 1910, Addison and Ruth were living with Addison’s parents in their home in Graham, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.   Addison and his father were working as coal miners at that time.

Addison Turner died as a result of pneumonia on May 21, 1913 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was buried in the Oglesby Cemetery in White Plains, Hopkins County, Kentucky.  He was 29 years old at his death.

Ruth remarried about three years after the death of her husband.  She married Silas Amos “Sam” Pope around 1916, probably in Kentucky.  Sam was born on October 6, 1895 in Arkansas, the son of James Robert Pope and Mary Burrow.

Sam registered for the draft for the First World War on June 5, 1917 in Wiley, Randolph County, Arkansas.  At that time, he and Ruth and her children were living in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, where Sam was employed as a farm laborer.  He was described as tall and slender, with blue eyes and light brown hair.  He did not serve in the war.

By 1920, Sam and Ruth and their family had moved to Curtail, Hopkins County, Kentucky.  Ruth’s brother, Lawrence Crunk, was also living with them.  Sam and Lawrence were both employed by the railroad.

Sam and Ruth moved their family to Michigan sometime before 1928.  They were living at 202 West Court in Flint, Genesse County, Michigan in 1928.  They stayed in Flint at least until 1931.  Sam was working in an Auto Body factory during that time.

Silas Amos Pope died on July 13, 1961 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was laid to rest in the Height Cemetery in Hopkins County, Kentucky.  He was 65 years old at his death.
