Jerome Bertram “J.B.” Jones was
born around 1826 in Virginia. His
parents might have been Thomas Jones and Ann Grace Gaines, but I have not been
able to find a document to verify that information.
Jerome
married Elizabeth Merritt around 1845 in either Virginia or Kentucky. Elizabeth was born about 1827 in
Virginia. The only family member I have
found for Elizabeth is her brother, William Merritt, who was living with her
and her husband in 1850. William was
born in 1841 in Kentucky.
Jerome
and Elizabeth were the parents of at least three children:
Anna Elizabeth Jones born in 1846
Thomas
Edward Jones born in February 1850
George Jerome Jones born July 23, 1852
Jerome
and Elizabeth raised their family in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky. Jerome provided for his family by working as
a sawyer.
