Laura A. Chapman was
born in February 1867 in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Edward L. Chapman and Anna Elizabeth Jones.
Around
1868, Laura’s family moved to Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri, and they
stayed there until around 1875.
In
1875, the Chapman family was living and working on a farm in Buffalo, Barton County,
Kansas. At that time, Edward’s property
was valued at $1,000 and his personal property valued at $50.
In
1880, Edward and Annie and their children were living in Great Bend, Barton
County, Kansas. Edward was working as a
Probate Judge at that time.
By
1885, the Chapman family was living in Ellinwood, Barton County, Kansas, where Edward
was employed as a post master.
Laura’s
father died in 1894, leaving her mother a widow. She lived with her mother until her mother’s
death in 1934.
In
1900, Laura was living with her mother and brother, Edward, in a house on Polk
Avenue in Great Bend, Barton County, Kansas.
In
1920, Laura and her mother were living in a home on Morton Street in Great
Bend, Barton County, Kansas.
Laura
A. Chapman died on June 15, 1958 in Fredonia, Wilson County, Kansas. She was buried alongside her parents in the
Great Bend Cemetery in Great Bend, Benton County, Kansas. She was 91 years old at her death.
