John Davis Sellars was born on October 28, 1889 in Harrison County, Kentucky. He was the son of John Henry Sellars and Zerelda Eckler.
On June 5, 1917, John registered for the draft for World War I in Harrison County. Both of his parents had died by that time, and he was living in Richland, Harrison County, with his sister, Katie, and his half-brother, Howard Humphrey. John and Howard worked as farm laborers. John was described as tall and slender, with brown hair and eyes.
In 1930, John was boarding with Howard and his wife, Mae, in their home in Richland.
John Davis Sellars died on April 3, 1942 in McKenneysburg, Pendleton County, Kentucky. He died as a result of a heart attack at 52 years of age.
