David Presley Nichols was born on December 29, 1883 in Ballard County, Kentucky. He was the second of six children born to William Burnet Nichols and Virginia Ira Belle Rudolph. He was raised on the family farm in Ballard County.
David registered for the draft for the First World War on September 12, 1918 in Ballard County. At that time, he was employed as a farm laborer. He was described as of medium height and build, with blue eyes and light hair.
In 1920, David was living with his parents on their farm in Ballard County. David was working on the family farm, and he was listed as a widow in that census.
David Presley Nichols died on October 2, 1965 in McCracken County, Kentucky. He was 81 years old at his death.
