James Bryan
Howell
was born on July 15, 1896 in Ada Valley, Conway County, Arkansas. He was the son of Samuel M. Howell and AgnesElizabeth Bennett. James was raised on
the family farm in Higgins, Conway County, Arkansas.
James was a veteran of the
First World War. He registered for the
draft on June 5, 1918 in Perry County, Arkansas. He was described as short, of medium build,
with gray eyes and light brown hair.
After the war, James returned home and lived with his parents in Lake,
Perry County, Arkansas. In the 1920 US
Census, James’ occupation was that of a carpenter.
James married Belle Virginia (maiden name unknown) around 1925,
probably in Arkansas. He was 28 years
old and she was 26 years. Belle was born
about 1899 in Alabama.
James and Belle were the parents of two children:
James Howell born
1927
Virginia Howell born
1930
After their marriage, James and Belle settled their family in a
home on Division Street in North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, where
James worked in a barber shop. They
stayed in that home at least until 1940.
Sometime between 1940 and 1942, the family moved into a home at
2420 Parker Street in North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas.
James Bryan Howell died on November 19, 1948 in Pulaski County,
Arkansas. He was 52 years old at his
death.
