Alice Myrtle
Smith was
born on February 16, 1851 in Philips County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Jonas Dudley Smith
and Viola Lawson Clendenning.
Alice married James Cicero Boggess on December 11, 1871 in Jackson
County, Arkansas. She was 19 years old and he was 24 years old. James was born on July 31, 1848 in Tennessee,
the son of Charles Haise Boggess &
Isabella C. Martin.
James and Alice had one
child:
Viola Isabelle Boggess born October 2, 1872
James Cicero Boggess died four months after the birth of his
daughter, leaving his young wife a widow at the age of 22, with an infant to
care for. James died on his 25th birthday, January 31, 1873, in Conway
County, Arkansas.
Four years after her first husband’s death, Alice married William
Samuel Hanna, a widower. They were
married on June 17, 1877 in Conway County, Arkansas. She was 26 years old
and he was 40 years. William was born May 18, 1837 in Madison County,
Mississippi, the son of James Hanna and Mary Caroline Truly.
William married his first wife, Mary E. Morgan, on August 27, 1860
in Conway County, Arkansas. Mary was born around 1845 in Alabama. She died sometime between 1871 and 1877,
leaving William with four children to care for.
With their blended family, William and Alice Hanna had eleven
children all together:

William and Alice raised their large family in Hamilton, Conway
County, Arkansas. William worked as an
attorney at law.
William Samuel Hanna died on September 6, 1899 in Conway County,
Arkansas. He was buried in the Elmwood
Cemetery in Morrilton, Conway County, Arkansas.
He was 62 years old at his death.
A widow once more, Alice and her children were living in
Morrilton, Conway County, Arkansas in 1900.
Alice lived in Morrilton the remainder of her life.
Alice Myrtle Smith Boggess Hanna died in Morrilton, Conway County,
Arkansas on February 11, 1926. She was laid to rest beside William in the
Elmwood Cemetery in Morrilton, Conway County, Arkansas. Alice was 75 years old at her death.
