Samuel “Carey” Torry was born November 7, 1896 in Grant County, Louisiana. He was the son of Lycurgus Eugene Torry and Lucy Anna Williamson. He was raised in Grant County, Louisiana.
Carey lived and worked on the family farm in Bently, Grant County, Louisiana for most of his life. After his father died in 1906, Carey continued to help his mother with the farm labor and lived with her until her death in 1932.
On June 5, 1918, Carey registered for the draft for World War I in Grant County, Louisiana. He was living with his mother at that time and working on the family farm in Grant County. He was described as of medium height and slender build, with grey eyes and brown hair. Carey did not serve in the war.
Samuel Carey Torry died in December 1978 in Dry Prong, Grant County, Louisiana. He was 82 years old at his death.
