William M. Hobbs
William M. Hobbs was born in February 1832, in Nelson, Kentucky. He was the eldest of five children born to Eli Hobbs and Lavina McMakin.
William married Sarah Ann Graves on September 16, 1858 in Nelson, Kentucky. He was 26 years old and she was just a few weeks shy of her 20th birthday. Sarah was born on October 2, 1838 in Fayette, Kentucky, the daughter of Thomas Sims Graves and Harriet R. Gist. William and Sarah had five children:
John Thomas born September 11, 1859
James William born July 11, 1862
Susan born about 1864
Charles born about 1870
George Edward born September 20, 1871
William and Sarah raised their family in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky. William was a farmer, and Sarah kept house.
William M. Hobbs died on March 11, 1873 and was buried in Old Methodist Cemetery in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.
After her husband’s death, Sarah lived with her youngest son, Edward, and his family, who also lived in Chaplin. Sarah died on November 20, 1915. She is also buried in Old Methodist Cemetery in Chaplin, Nelson County, Kentucky.
