Johann Heinrich "Henry" Feiler (1823- )

Johann Heinrich “Henry” Feiler was born on October 7, 1823 in Nußdorf (Ba. Landau), Bayern, Germany, and christened the following day.  He was the son of Johann Jacob Feiler and Apollonia Theobald. 

Henry married Maria Salomea “Sallie” Heupel on July 24, 1845 in Evangelisch, Nussdorf, Pfalz, Bavaria, Germany.  Sallie was born on July 31, 1821 in Nußdorf (BA. Landau), Bayern, Germany, the daughter of Georg Bernhard Heupel and Anna Maria Heupel. 

Henry and Sallie had at least four children:

Philipp               born July 20, 1846 in Germany

                           christened August 2, 1846

Heinrich             born January 22, 1849 in Germany

                           christened January 26, 1849

Frederich G.      born July 7, 1850 in Germany

                            christened July 21, 1850

Mary                   born 1856 – Kentucky

Henry and Sallie immigrated to America sometime between 1850 and 1856.  By 1860, they had settled their family in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, where Henry found work as a cooper. 

Henry enlisted for service in the American Civil War in July 1863. 

In the 1870 and 1880 US Census, Henry’s occupation was that of a “Huckster,” and he provided for his family by peddling goods on the streets of Louisville.
