Ado Boggus Collinsworth (1893-1947)


Ado Boggus Collinsworth was born August 15, 1893 in Grant County, Louisiana.  He was the son of D.W. Collinsworth and Joana Boggus.  He was raised in Grant County, Louisiana.

Ado registered for the draft for the First World War on June 5, 1917 in Pollock, Grant County, Louisiana.  He was 24 years old and living with his mother and grandmother in Pollock.  He was described as tall and slender, with brown eyes and light-colored hair.  Ado was among the 200 men selected in the first draft call in Grant County.  He served in the 87th Infantry Division from 1917-1919. 

After serving in the war, Ado married Lessie B. (maiden name unknown), in either Grant or Caddo County, Louisiana.  Lessie was born about  1894 in Louisiana.  They had four children:

            Myrtle                          born 1921
            Ado Boggus, Jr.        born June 10, 1922
            P. W. 
            Lonnie R.                    born 1828

In 1920, Ado and his family were renting a home in Caddo County, Louisiana, where Ado was employed as a laborer in an oil field.

In 1940, the family was living at 2835 West College Street in Shreveport, Caddo County, Louisiana.  

Ado Boggus Collinsworth died on August 16, 1947 in Alexandria, Rapides County, Louisiana, just one day after his 54th birthday. 

Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Aug. 17, 1947, Sunday, p. 8:

Funeral services for Ado B. Collinsworth, 54, 3834 Maryland Street, who died at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans' Hospital, Alexandria, following an illness of three years, will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

Officiating at the rites will be the Rev. Ira Peak, pastor of the Queensborough Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

A veteran of the First World War, Mr. Collinsworth was a member of the Shreveport American Legion post and the Queensborough Baptist Church.

He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Waren, Alexandria and Mrs. P. W. Cury, Vallejo, Calif.; two sons, A. B. Collinsworth, Jr., Bossier City, and Lonnie R. Collinsworth, Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. Milton Kely, Polock, and Mrs. T. Hayward Barnes, Shreveport, three grandchildren, and numerous relatives in Bienville Parish.

Walter Thomas Collinsowrth (1891- bef 1910)


Walter Thomas Collinsworth was born in November 1891 in Grant County, Louisiana.  He was the son of D.W. Collinsworth and Joana Boggus.  He was raised in Grant County, Louisiana.

Walter Thomas Collinsworth died before 1910, probably in Grant County, Louisiana.

Joana Boggus (1861- )

Joana Boggus was born in December 1861 in either Rapides or Grant County, Louisiana.  She was the daughter of Thomas Henry and Lourena Boggus.  Joana was raised in Grant County, Louisiana.

Around 1890, Joana married D. W. Collinsworth, probably in Grant County, Louisiana.  Joana was a widow by 1900.

In 1900, Joana and her three children were living with her widowed mother on her farm in Pollock, Grant County, Louisiana.  Joana was the mother of four children, with only three listed in the 1900 Census:

Joana lived with her mother until her mother’s death in 1929.

Thomas Henry Boggus (1840- bef 1900)

Thomas “Henry” Boggus was born in 1840 in Hempstead County, Arkansas.  He was the son of Peter Boggess and Amanda M. West.  He was raised in Hempstead County, Arkansas and Rapides County, Louisiana.

Henry married Lourena (maiden name unknown) in 1860.  He was 20 years old and she was 17 years.  Lorena was born in December 1843 in Alabama.  The couple was living with Henry’s widowed father in Rapides County, Louisiana in 1860. 

In 1880, Henry and his family were living on a farm in Grant County, Louisiana.  Henry and Lorena had seven children, with only three living to adulthood:

            Joana                         born December 1861
            Frances Lorena        born May 1867

Thomas Henry Boggus died sometime between 1880 and 1900.  In 1900, Lorena was living with her married daughter, Joana Collingsworth, in Pollock, Grant County, Louisiana.  Lorena continued living with her daughter until her death in 1929.

Lourena Boggus died on April 21, 1929 in Rapides County, Louisiana.  She was 85 years old at her death.

Peter Boggess (1811-1889)

Peter Boggess was born about 1811 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  He was the son of Joel and Fanny Boggess.  Peter lived in Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Texas during his childhood.

Peter married Amanda M. West on September 3, 1839 in Hempstead County, Arkansas.  He was 28 years old and she was 17 years.  Amanda was born about 1822 in Mississippi.  They had at least four children:

            Tabitha Joanna Boggus                     born 1858

After their marriage, the couple settled in Arkansas, where Peter was presumably a farmer.  Amanda died sometime after the birth of Tabitha and before 1860.

By 1860, Peter, now a widow, had moved his children to Alexandria, Rapides County, Louisiana, where he owned a farm valued at $3,200, with personal estate worth $1,850.  His farm was located near the farm of Cornelius and Amanda Nugent.

Peter married a second time on April 5, 1866 in Alexandria, Rapides County, Louisiana.  He married the newly widowed Amanda Antionette Sims Nugent, her husband, Cornelius, having died on February 5, 1865.  Amanda was born January 21, 1831 in Georgia, the daughter of John Sims.  She brought five children to the marriage:

            Francis Oliver Nugent                    born September 13, 1855
            James Monroe Nugent                  born July 25, 1857
            Alice Laurette Nugent                     born August 21, 1860
            Leon Nugent                                     born 1863     

Peter and Amanda Sims Nugent Boggess had at least three children together:

            Alice Amanda Boggus                     born February 1868
            Frances Ann Boggus                        born July 1869
            Mary Virginia Boggus                    born October 24, 1870

In 1870, Peter and Amanda, and their new family, were living in Pineville, Rapides County, Louisiana.  Peter was then employed as a physician. 

Amanda A. Sims Nugent Boggess died in October 1879 in Rigolette, Rapides County, Louisiana, at the age of 48.  The cause of death was congestion of the bowels.

By 1880, Peter was left a widow again.  He and his children were living in Rigolette, Rapides County, Louisiana. 

Peter Boggess died on January 25, 1889 in Rapides County, Louisiana.  He was around 78 years old at his death.

Eli Boggess (1788- bef 1819)

Eli Boggess was the tenth child born to Richard H. Boggess and Nancy (Ann) Smith.  He was born about 1788 in Prince William County, Virginia, or in North Carolina.  

Eli Boggess was not mentioned in his mother’s will in April 1819 so it is assumed that he died before that time.

Felix Rudolph Nichols (1907-1974)


Felix Rudolph Nichols was born on January 10, 1907 in Ballard County, Kentucky.  He was the last of six children born to William Burnet Nichols and Virginia Ira BelleRudolph.  He was raised on the family farm in Ballard County.

Around 1925, Felix married Verna (maiden name unknown).  He was 17 years old and she was 19 years.  Verna was born around 1905 in Kentucky.  They had at least one child:

            James P.        born 1927

After their marriage, Felix and Verna rented a home in Ballard County, where Felix found work as a farm laborer.

Felix Rudolph Nichols died on December 21, 1974 in McCracken County, Kentucky.  He was 67 years old at his death.
